I've been holding onto this quote from Rebecca Solnit a lot since the election: "They want you to feel powerless and surrender and let them trample everything and you are not going to let them. You are not giving up, and neither am I. The fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything, and everything we can save is worth saving."

It is so important to speak out, even if you think your reach is small, because we are well-acquainted with the ripple effect. There is no knowing the resulting impact from influencing even one heart, who in turn reaches out and impacts another. You are grasping that we don't need all the answers, but we do need the encouragement to keep on, keeping on!

“…rip my peace out by the roots” — felt every word of that. Your words feel like a hot cup of tea from a friend this morning.

I'm so glad that's how it came across because that's exactly how I intended it!

Ooooof, thank you. This winter feels like it's taking it out of me in every direction. I didn't plant bulbs last fall...mostly because we don't have a garden here (yet?) and I think having something to look forward to like would be really helpful. Grateful you keep showing up =)

I hope you can get "a bit of earth" established to call your own very soon! And yes, bulb planting has become a fall ritual. I just keep planting more and more each year. Having their blooming to look forward to really does help.

Brea - your words re: gratitude hit a chord. My last IG post was about this same exact thing. I think it’s something so easy to talk about but flexing that muscle of really identifying those things you do have to be grateful for… that’s much harder when you’re in difficult times. But I would say, even more important than ever.

Also - I started way of kings last year and have tag teamed reading and listening. I enjoy the audio book version! I put it down when my life got hard and I got buried in grief, but maybe this is my sign to pick it back up.

This is just what I needed to read today. Thank you. :)

I’ll add my voice saying I’ll be interested to hear what you think of Sanderson. I’ve been encouraged to wade in but also feel lost in where to start.

Thank you for being a bright spot in dark times. :)

“Hope gets the last song.” Amen. Needed these words today; it’s been a rough January with several losses. I told my friend yesterday, “January sucks.” And yet, spring is coming and it’s almost February. 💛

I haven’t read any Sanderson since I read the original Mistborn trilogy right after college. Can’t wait to hear about it.

Everyone recommend I start with the Mistborn Trilogy if I wanted to try Brandon Sanderson and I waited months for it to be available at any of our libraries but it never did. I got impatient and jumped into The Way of Kings. The volumes is 1,001 pages long so I feel like I'm in the deep end over here, ha!
